Let’s Uplevel Together: Maintaining Integrity in the Face of Contractive Energies

In our day to day we often come across people who are forging their way through life in contractive and survival states.  Learning the art of engaging with people in these energies, without getting caught up in the whirlwind they create is not just a skill for safeguarding your well-being— it's a powerful tool for staying true to your principles, radiating positivity and living your magic.

At the end of the day, we will always find ourselves in scenarios where we need to interact with people in contractive energies (and sometimes, we are these people!), but when we are in an expansive state and abundant mindset, it can be really helpful to have tools to protect your energy.

Before we dive in, if you find yourself operating often from a place of fight or flight, survival states or contractive ways, I want you to know that you don’t need to construct your life based on choices made in the heat of survival mode. Learning to step back and reflect, a world of possibilities unfolds, inviting us to move beyond mere survival and towards intentional, thriving living. Fight or flight response is a primal instinct designed for immediate survival and it often prompts quick decisions to navigate imminent threats. In certain situations, this instinct serves us well, but when perpetually activated, it can inadvertently shape our long-term decisions, creating patterns that may not align with our authentic selves.

I have spent a lot of time over the years examining and rewiring my nervous system from a survival energy to an energy that supports abundance and is focused on creation. That’s not to say that I am always in that energy, but I do try to only make decisions from that abundant place. Most recently, I have had a powerful call to action, urging me to refine the art of safeguarding my energy, preserving my integrity, and relearning the nuances of standing up for myself in the face of someone who operates out of survival instincts. As I navigate this intricate path, the importance of protecting my energy has become a necessity. There is no doubt in my mind that energy is a precious resource, and being mindful of how we invest it can significantly impact our well-being – SIGNIFICANTLY. This upgraded awareness has led me to reassess the people, situations, and activities that either fuel my positive energy or drain it, prompting a deliberate and empowered choice in where I direct my focus.

This experience has been a great reminder of the significance of maintaining my unwavering integrity. In a world filled with diverse challenges, staying true to my principles gives me strength and is a steady anchor throughout challenges. It involves aligning actions with values, even in the face of adversity, and choosing the high road when confronted with moral dilemmas. The process of fine-tuning my commitment to integrity has empowered me to navigate challenges with grace and authenticity.

Perhaps the most profound lesson has been rediscovering how to stand up to bullies. Whether they manifest as individuals or challenging circumstances, the key lies in asserting oneself with resilience and courage. By setting clear boundaries, communicating assertively, and refusing to be a passive recipient of negative behavior, I've learned that standing up to bullies is not just an act of self-preservation but a reclaiming of personal power.

The past eight months I have gone through a masterclass on how to interact with people who are acting out of contraction and survival mentality, urging me to protect my energy, uphold my integrity, and face adversity with a newfound strength. As I continue to navigate the unexpected twists and turns, I am embracing the opportunity for growth, self-reflection, and the empowerment that comes with confidently standing up for what I believe in.

So, here is my two cents – the valuable learnings I have taken from this most recent call to uplevel.

Learn How to Recognize Contractive Energies

Individuals in a contractive and survival state often emit energies marked by fear, insecurity, and a strong desire for self-preservation. These energies can manifest in many ways but a few examples include defensive body language, aggressive communication, or withdrawal. Identifying these signs early is crucial for safeguarding your mental and emotional health. When someone else is in a contractive state, simply acknowledge that this is their current state (without judgment), and adjust your approach accordingly.

Maintain Compassion and Empathy

Instead of succumbing to frustration or judgment, approach individuals in a contractive state with compassion and empathy. Understand that their behaviors may stem from deep-seated fears and insecurities, often unrelated to the current situation. Stay grounded in understanding by reminding yourself that everyone has their own battles. Use empathetic language like, "I see you're feeling stressed, how can I support you?" This shifts the dynamic from confrontation to collaboration and can help de-escalate tension.

Set Boundaries (This is a BIG one!)

While maintaining empathy, it is equally important to set clear boundaries. Protect your energy by establishing limits on what you're willing to tolerate. Clearly communicate your boundaries by saying things like, "I understand you're upset, but I cannot accept being spoken to in that manner." This doesn't mean shutting the person out entirely but rather creating a space that allows for healthy interactions without compromising your well-being. This is an area where I've had to grow significantly. As someone who struggles with confrontation, this has been a crucial step for me to maintain my mental health and relationships.Speak up for yourself, spend time upgrading your boundaries

Remain Centered in Chaos

When faced with chaos, the temptation to stoop to the same level can be strong. However, it's crucial to remain centered. Practice mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing, visualization, or progressive muscle relaxation to stay grounded. Engage in activities that reinforce your inner peace, such as yoga, nature walks, or journaling. Cultivating a sense of inner peace helps you navigate challenging interactions with grace and composure, making you a stabilizing presence in chaotic environments.

Sometimes dealing with others who are operating out of contractive states can push you into a similar state. If that happens, stop, regulate, recharge and then approach the scenario.

Choose Responses, Not Reactions

Responding thoughtfully instead of reacting impulsively is key when dealing with contractive energies. When you feel triggered, take a moment to pause and breathe deeply. Consider the impact of your words and actions before responding. Use statements like, "I need a moment to think about this" to give yourself time. This intentional approach not only prevents escalation but also reinforces your commitment to maintaining a positive and constructive environment. It demonstrates that you value respectful and meaningful communication.

Rise Above the Chaos

Remember, you don't need to stoop to the chaos around you. By choosing a path of integrity, you rise above tumultuous energies, demonstrating strength and resilience. This involves sticking to your values and maintaining your composure, even when provoked. It’s about being the calm in the storm. This not only preserves your sense of self but can also serve as an example for those caught in a survival state. Your ability to stay calm and composed can inspire others to do the same, creating a ripple effect of positivity and stability.

So all of that to say…

In the complex landscape of human interactions, encountering individuals in contractive and survival states is inevitable. However, by recognizing these energies, maintaining compassion, setting boundaries, remaining centered, and choosing intentional responses, you can navigate these situations with grace. Remember, you have the power to rise above chaos without compromising your integrity. Your approach not only protects your well-being but also promotes healthier, more constructive interactions, fostering a more understanding and compassionate environment for everyone involved.
